cool_stuff
well.... where do i start... hmmm

i guess this all started 12 years ago? i don't know.. when i was in 1st grade and i became a "Cub scout". cub scouting is for ages 6-10. highly enjoyed those years. then i crossed over into "BOY scouting" it was a huge step for me into a whole diff. world. as time went on my scouting grew and grew and grew some more. i figured out soooooo many things, mostly by messing them up the first time (i.e. burning hole in mess kit with propane, duck-tape messes in sleeping bag.. etc)

about two years into scouting i realized that YES i was going to become an eagle scout, the highest rank in scouting in which only 5%, yes 5%!!! of all scouts that try to make eagle, actually make eagle. 5%!!!! such a minority. and yes i have done it. on Dec 21 2006 i became an eagle scout.

in order to become an eagle scout there is SEVERAL things that u need to do. things such as 21 elective merit badges and 12 eagle required badges. along with that i had to FULLY AND COMPLETLY organize a service project of over 100 man hours (or women hours). to fulfill that i did a 1/4 mile multi-purpose trail on the south end of Jackson, WI. it was hard and grueling. we had to cut down trees and 3 feet of brush in order to just be able to lay down the 6-8 inches of wood chips. yes, yes it was hard. the hole process took over 4 months to become and eagle. but then i look at it... and it took OVER 12 years of my life to become and eagle... i had to go through cub scouts... and then through ALL the ranks in boy scouts to get there. its crazy. i don't know how many times i wanted to just stop all together but i stuck to it and i am glad that i did. ahh, yha that's it for now i guess (aka I'm sick of typing)

Hero of the Week
Jason Babcock

The Next Door Foundation's Books for Kids program collects new or gently used books for young readers in Milwaukiee's central city, with the belief that all kids, regardless of their family's income, should have their own books and begin a lifelong love of reading as early as possible.

That goal was supported by the remarkable efforts of Wauwatosa East sophomre Jason Babcock, who collected 2,100 books for the program. The 16 year old made that extra effort for an Eagle Scout project for Boy Scout Troop 47, sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa. The books will go to the foundation's Early Head Start, Head Start, and Charter School programs.

Five Eagle Scouts recognized during court of honor program, original by: Thomas J. Mckillen, Managin Editor

The short story:

All these young men - and those who preceded them and those who follow them - will be able to achieve the maximum of their potential for being a scout.

The Eagle Scout is the highest recognition in Boy Scout and involves undertaking a community project at a leadership level which includes organizing and executing the activity.

The Eagle Scout promise is:
On my honor I will do my best
To make my training and example
My rank and my influence
Count strongly for better scouting
And for better Scouting
In my troop
In my community
And in my contacts with other people

Scouts learn a lot about morals, character, leadership skills that are all a big impact on their life, and the values they gain from learing from other people too.

These five Eagle Scouts were honored:

Mitchell Rath, a student at the Hartford Union High School, who oversaw a project in which a fence was built around the Dumpsters at the St. Gabriel School.

Brian Markovich, a student at UW-Oshkosh, who put the stations of the cross online for the Holy Hill church.

John Gerrits, a student at UW-Oshkosh, who constructed soccer goals for the St. Gabriel School.

Simon Felhofer, a student at Slinger High School, who constructed a bridge at the Richfield Historical Park.

Aaron Schoofs, a student at Hartford Union High School, who put in a fireplace at the St. Gabriel Church for Easter vigil services.

All of these Eagel Scouts made a wonderful impact to their community, and I am sure they hope they can inspire others to do the same. bear_thumb.gif
