Today is Poem Day so here is a nice poem i found

Treasures in You

There are treasures in life,
but owners are few
Of money and power
to buy things brand new.

Yet you can be wealthy
and feel regal too,
If you will just look
for the treasures in you.

These treasures in life
are not hard to find
When you look in your heart,
your soul, and your mind.

For when you are willing
to share what's within,
Your fervent search
for riches will end.

The joy and the laughter,
the smile that you bring;
The heart unafraid
to love and to sing;

The hand always willing
to help those in need;
Ones quick to reach out,
to labor and fee.

So thank you for sharing
these great gifts inside;
The caring, the cheering,
the hug when one cried.

Thanks for the energy,
encouragement too,
And thank you for sharing
the treasures in you.

Today is also World No Tobacco Day!!!
For those who smoke and want to quit today is a good day to start!!
For those who know someone who is trying to quit, give them all the support you can!!
For those of you that have been successful in quiting, pat yourself on the back!!

I have been pretty much (had a couple of weak moments that i gave into) smoke free for 3 or 4 years now. I suck at remembering dates so I only remember that I think i was 20 at the time that i decided to finally quit after about 8 years of smoking.... (Naughty me for starting so young!)

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE TRYING TO QUIT AND CONGRATS TO ALL THOSE THAT HAVE QUIT!!! bear_thumb.gif

Today is Shavuot! So celebrate the Holiday of the First Fruits and the Season of the Giving of the Torah. Get into the festive spirit and enjoy!

I really don't know anything about this holiday but I was able to find a recipe for it!

ENJOY!!

Shavout Dainties
ArielRose
ok so i looked it up and this is what i found.

The Story of Shavuot
Shavuot, the Feast of the Weeks, is the Jewish holiday celebrating the harvest season in Israel. Shavuot, which means "weeks", refers to the timing of the festival which is held exactly 7 weeks after Passover. Shavuot is known also as Yom Habikkurim, or "the Day of the First Fruits", because it is the time the farmers of Israel would bring their first harvest to Jerusalem as a token of thanksgiving.

Shavuot also commemorates the anniversary of the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai.

Celebrating the Day of the First Fruits
The farmers of Israel would begin their spring harvests with the barley crop at Passover. The harvest continued for seven weeks as the other crops and fruits began to ripen. As each fruit ripened, the first of each type would not be eaten but instead the farmer would tie a ribbon around the the branch. This ribbon signified that these fruits were Bikkurim, or the first fruits.

At Shavuot the farmers would gather the Bikkurim into baskets and bring them to the city of Jerusalem where they would be eaten in the holy city. The farmers living close to Jerusalem would bring fresh fruits, while those who had to travel a long distance carried dried raisins and figs. This joyful occasion was celebrated with the music of fifes, timbres, and drums. As the pilgrims approached the city walls they were greeted by the inhabitants of the city. Sometimes the King himself would join the procession to the Temple Mount. The Bikkurim ritual is no longer practiced in present day Israel.

Today is best friends day!!!

Friendships

Like flowers they need to bloom slow
Allowing loving friendships to grow
Friendships can be a lifetime treasure
Allowing growth without pressure

Just as flowers need attention
Friendships need love, not contention
As flowers of all shades
Loving friendships won't fade

Friendships need to connect
In time they earn respect
Just as flowers have roots
In time developed strong shoots

Friendships are like the ivy vine
Becoming stronger they entwine
Truest colors of the rose
True sincerity friends expose

Today is Diary Day!!!

How many of you keep a diary????

I started writing in a diary when i was about 11 or 12 and i still do to this day. Through the years I have slowly gotten rid of my old diarys... Nothing incriminating to be found bear_grin.gif I used to write so much that 1 day could take anywhere up to around 5 pages in a normal notebook. Somedays even more.... Now I don't really keep it up very well, i write a bit for a few days then i forget about it for a month or more before i write again.... But i jot down important events or things i want to remember later on. Or if i'm upset its a GREAT way to get everything out if you don't want to rant to someone you know or if you just don't have anyone to rant to.... bear_w00t.gif

Mrs Liz
I keep a diary in my bathroom. Yes the bathroom, it is a great way to add your thoughts of the day. Everyone who uses the bathroom enjoys adding to it too. It makes it a real keeper of events.

bear_flower.gif Kitchen Klutzes Of America Day

Well this is the first I have ever heard of this day.
But my tip is: try to add a little fun to your meals with a little food color.
It is fun to see their faces when you bring out blue mash potatoes.
So next time your making something that lacks in color, add a drop or two of surprise.

bear_wub.gif Sweetest Day!
A day to share a little love with anyone, and if its chocolate then, make it Dark chocolate. It appears to be good for the heart and can improve blood flow. Remember, though, that it is dark chocolate or cocoa—not white or milk chocolate—that is beneficial. Why not give something that tastes good and good for them. Have a great day bear_flower.gif

bear_wub.gif Opposites Attract Day!
Well this could not be any truer with my husband and I.
We are opposites in everything.
I liked school, he hated it.
I go to church, he does not.
I show no interest in the government, he does.
I am miss goodie goodie, and he is a bad boy.
He smokes and I don't.
I'm little bit country and his heavy metal.
But it is so true that opposites attract, and love at first site.
We have had our ups and downs but it has been a great ride.
Our daughter turned out great too, getting both sides of any life issue from us.

So you may want to think twice when you see that person that is the opposite of you bear_original.gif

bear_w00t.gif It's Penguin Awareness Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bear_w00t.gif

Penguins are one of the most well-known animals in the world. They are members of the bird family. They are birds because they lay eggs, they have feathers, and they are warm-blooded animals. Most birds fly but penguins can not fly. They have flippers that help them swim instead of wings for flying.

Penguins are found in many different habitats, or places. They live from the frozen land of Antarctica to the sandy beaches of Africa. They live from the rocky coasts of South America to the coasts of New Zealand. Penguins have adapted to more habitats and climates than any other animal in the world.

user posted image

Penguins have long, flat flippers that help them swim and dive for fish, squid, and krill. They have very short legs that are set far back on their lower body. They stand upright and waddle when they walk.

Penguins are covered with waterproof feathers. The feathers are stiff, short and grow close together. These feathers grow over a thick coat of fluffy down. Penguins have a thick layer of blubber, or fat right under their skin. This blubber keeps them warm or insulated from the cold snow and icy waters they swim in.

All penguins have about the same colors. They have a black back and a white belly. This is called protective coloration or camouflage. When a penguin floats on its belly in the water their enemies, such as a leopard seal or the killer whale can not see the penguin. This is because when the predator looks up through the water it can not see the penguin because the light shining through the water makes everything look white. This is also true for the black head and back. As the penguin floats in the water, its black coloring is hard to see in the water because the water also looks black. The black coloring on the back and head also helps the penguin soak in the warmth from the sun.

user posted image

Penguins are amazing swimmers. When penguins float they use their flippers to paddle through the water. When they dive and swim they use their flippers to fly through the water. They use their flippers for swimming like other birds use their wings for flying. Most penguins can dive very deep and can hold their breath for many minutes. They have large round eyes that help them to see in the dark water. Penguins can swim up to hundreds of miles in search of food.

Penguins move over land by walking, jumping and sliding. Penguins that live on the ice can slide or go tobogganing on their bellies down hills and slopes. They lay down and push off with their flippers and slide across the ice. Penguins are also good jumpers. They can jump the height and width of their own bodies. They often hop or jump over rocks or holes.

Like all birds, penguins lay eggs and they each have their own mating habits. Penguins form a bond between a male and female. This is done through different actions from the males. The male will flap his flippers, puff out his breast feathers, arch his neck, and make loud braying sounds to show off for the females. Once a pair have bonded they will mate. Soon after one or two eggs are laid. The eggs are cared for by both parents in some type of nest made out of rocks, pebbles, sticks, anything they can find. The Emperor penguin rolls the egg onto the top of the male's feet. It takes from 30 to 60 days for the eggs to hatch, depending on which kind of penguin it is. After the chick has been raised, the male and female break up. But often they will return to the same breeding ground and mate year after year.

user posted image

Penguin chicks are covered with a thick layer of warm fuzzy, brown feathers called down. This down keeps them very warm. The male and female both care for the chicks by bringing back food to them in their stomachs. They force food up out of their stomachs and place it in the chicks' mouth. Eventhough two eggs are hatched, often only one chick will survive. Once the chicks are 2 to 3 weeks old, they will gather together in groups called a creche. The chicks will stay together in groups for warmth and safety while the parents go to the open sea to hunt for food. When the parents return they will call to their chicks. The chicks recognize its parents' sound and will go to them.

Penguins have several animals that hunt them for food. These animals are called predators. These include the large sea birds like the skuas, gulls, sheathbills, and petrels. These large birds will steal eggs and chicks that are not guarded. Penguins are also in danger when they are in the water. They are often attacked by sea leopards, killer whales, fur seals, seal lions, and sharks. The leopard seal is the greatest threat. It hides and waits in the water just under the ice and catches the penguins when they jump in to hunt for food. The penguins are an important part of the food chain in their habitat.

One hundred years ago millions of penguins were killed for the oil in their bodies. This oil was used for lamp fuel and for paint. Today penguins are not hunted and their habitats have been developed into Wildlife Preserves. Eventhough penguins were humted in the past most kinds of penguins are very numerous. Some colonies have one million mating pairs. One threat to the penguins is pollution from oil spills into the feeding waters off Africa and South America. Also global warming is causing damage to the ozone layer over the Antarctica. This is decreasing the amount of food for them in the ocean. A decrease in their food supply could cause a decrease in the number of penguins.

user posted image

Penguins are one of the easiest birds to recognize. They are one of the most loved animals in the world. These interesting animals were first seen by the white explorers when Magellan sailed around the rocky coasts of South America in 1519. The sailors thought these strange new birds looked like the Great Auk of Greenland and Iceland. The Great Auk, which is now extinct, was a large black and white bird that did not fly. The spanish word for Great Auk is pinguis taken from the Latin word penguigo, which means fat. The early Spanish explorers where the first to see the penguin and they gave it its name.

Lighting Your Way
by justageorgiaguy

If I was one thing, I'd be a candle
Lighting the way so you can handle
Your life easier without woes
Not having to fight with your foes.
I'd help keep you from stumbling over
Things blocking your path to an open door.
If I light your path, life is easier,
Even strong winds, my light will not deter.
No matter what, I'm here for you
To cheer you up when you are blue.
Do not fret when times get tough,
If things look down or kind of rough.
Just remember, I'm always here,
In your heart, close and near.
I will help you out in every way,
Happiness and love in your heart will stay.
Don't blow me out, that's one request
Unless it's me you do detest.
I do not try to hurt anyone
That isn't good or any fun.
But one day you may leave me behind
You may no longer need my light to shine.
If that day comes, go on your way
And I will hope to see you again one day.
If one day, I don't appear,
Do not worry, do not fear
I may be gone, but in your heart
The light I gave you did not depart.
It will be there forever and a day
To always bring happiness and light your way.
Farewell for now, I'm needed elsewhere
If your path grows dark, in your heart, I'm there.
So I'm really not gone, just not seen,
I would not leave, I'm not that mean.
Only one simple request that I must say,
Please, never forget those who lit your way.

It's Dream Of Your Sweetheart Day!!

Things I Love About You
by Anthony West

Your eyes
which first held me captivated
where I stood.

Your smile
to dazzle the sun
and warm every corner of my soul.

Your voice
like a sparkling mountain stream
which flows into my heart.

Your walk
and the way your gracefulness
takes my breath away.

Your hair
about which I dreamed
cascading into my face
as you leaned over me.

Your hands
whose caress I crave
to hold my face
in their tenderness.

Your arms
I long to have around my neck
as you pull me close
to your warmth.

Most of all
everything you are
changed the way I feel about my life.

I love you.

SO..... How was everyones Valentines Day???

Sadly, yesterday i was supposed to be off of work but due to stupid people I was asked to work the morning shift.... To top it off I had been sick and yesterday was the worst of it..... So the first half of my V-Day really sucked!!!

After we both got home we went to a tool sale (so exciting hay lol) to pick up a few things. I got new stuff to use when we move... Then we ordered pizza and watched a movie that I have been waiting to watch for the past week. The second half of my day was pretty good. bear_grin.gif

I got a home distillation kit for my vday gift, so now i get to make my own Essential Oils and perfumes. bear_thumb.gif

The one day that everyone can think green bear_flower.gif

But for me today is my Anniversary bear_thumb.gif

On Valentines day 2003 Ken & I went to the court house to get our marriage licence, how sweet is that. We then picked St. Patrick's Day to wed.

That was four years ago I said "I DO" to the man I love bear_wub.gif after 21 years of being together. It was a wonderful sunny day, and I had a green dress on. It was such a special day to have our daughter and her boyfriend as our witness on this day. (now they are engaged to be married some day)

Then on July 13th the anniversary date of when we first meet, we tied the knot with an Irish wedding.

Sand Dunes

Sea waves are green and wet,
But up from where they die,
Rise others vaster yet,
And those are brown and dry.

They are the sea made land
To come at the fisher town,
And bury in solid sand
The men she could not drown.

She may know cove and cape,
But she does not know mankind
If by any change of shape,
She hopes to cut off mind.

Men left her a ship to sink:
They can leave her a hut as well;
And be but more free to think
For the one more cast-off shell.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The Peaceful Shepherd

If heaven were to do again,
And on the pasture bars,
I leaned to line the figures in
Between the dotted starts,

I should be tempted to forget,
I fear, the Crown of Rule,
The Scales of Trade, the Cross of Faith,
As hardly worth renewal.

For these have governed in our lives,
And see how men have warred.
The Cross, the Crown, the Scales may all
As well have been the Sword.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The Flower Boat

The fisherman's swapping a yarn for a yarn
Under the hand of the village barber,
And her in the angle of house and barn
His deep-sea dory has found a harbor.

At anchor she rides the sunny sod
As full to the gunnel of flowers growing
As ever she turned her home with cod
From George's bank when winds were blowing.

And I judge from that elysian freight
That all they ask is rougher weather,
And dory and master will sail by fate
To seek the Happy Isles together.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Devotion

The hear can think of no devotion
Greater than being shore to the ocean--
Holding the curve of one position,
Counting an endless repetition.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The Rose Family

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only know
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose--
But were always a rose.

~*~*~*~*~*~

PUTTING IN THE SEED
You come to fetch me from my work to-night
When supper's on the table, and we'll see
If I can leave off burying the white
Soft petals fallen from the apple tree
(Soft petals, yes, but not so barren quite,
Mingled with these, smooth bean and wrinkled pea);
And go along with you ere you lose sight
Of what you came for and become like me,
Slave to a Springtime passion for the earth.
How Love burns through the Putting in the Seed
On through the watching for that early birth
When, just as the soil tarnishes with weed,
The sturdy seedling with arched body comes
Shouldering its way and shedding the earth crumbs.

Love among the Ruins

Where the quiet-coloured end of evening smiles,
Miles and miles
On the solitary pastures where our sheep
Half-asleep
Tinkle homeward thro' the twilight, stray or stop
As they crop--
Was the site once of a city great and gay,
(So they say)
Of our country's very capital, its prince
Ages since
Held his court in, gathered councils, wielding far
Peace or war.

Now the country does not even boast a tree,
As you see,
To distinguish slopes of verdure, certain rills
From the hills
Intersect and give a name to, (else they run
Into one)
Where the domed and daring palace shot its spires
Up like fires
O'er the hundred-gated circuit of a wall
Bounding all
Made of marble, men might march on nor be prest
Twelve abreast.

And such plenty and perfection, see, of grass
Never was!
Such a carpet as, this summer-time, o'er-spreads
And embeds
Every vestige of the city, guessed alone,
Stock or stone--
Where a multitude of men breathed joy and woe
Long ago;
Lust of glory pricked their hearts up, dread of shame
Struck them tame;
And that glory and that shame alike, the gold
Bought and sold.

Now--the single little turret that remains
On the plains,
By the caper overrooted, by the gourd
Overscored,
While the patching houseleek's head of blossom winks
Through the chinks--
Marks the basement whence a tower in ancient time
Sprang sublime,
And a burning ring, all round, the chariots traced
As they raced,
And the monarch and his minions and his dames
Viewed the games.

And I know, while thus the quiet-coloured eve
Smiles to leave
To their folding, all our many-tinkling fleece
In such peace,
And the slopes and rills in undistinguished grey
Melt away--
That a girl with eager eyes and yellow hair
Waits me there
In the turret whence the charioteers caught soul
For the goal,
When the king looked, where she looks now, breathless, dumb
Till I come.

But he looked upon the city, every side,
Far and wide,
All the mountains topped with temples, all the glades'
Colonnades,
All the causeys, bridges, aqueducts,--and then
All the men!
When I do come, she will speak not, she will stand,
Either hand
On my shoulder, give her eyes the first embrace
Of my face,
Ere we rush, ere we extinguish sight and speech
Each on each.

In one year they sent a million fighters forth
South and North,
And they built their gods a brazen pillar high
As the sky
Yet reserved a thousand chariots in full force--
Gold, of course.
O heart! oh blood that freezes, blood that burns!
Earth's returns
For whole centuries of folly, noise and sin!
Shut them in,
With their triumphs and their glories and the rest!
Love is best.

May Day - May 1st

May Day originated in the rites of the ancient Romans and Druids who called upon nature during this period to bring forth another life-giving spring. Trees were a central object of worship in their rituals. The English changed the custom by erecting maypoles in villages around which all danced and frolicked. They transformed the day into such a spirited festival that Puritan leaders barred the celebration in the mid-seven-teenth century. Today May Day is celebrated in most areas of the world as a day to honor labor.

The Empire State Building was opened to the public, with 102 stories.

May 7, 1840 - The birth date of Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky

Here is someone you may not know by name, but he was one of Russia's first composers to gain international fame. He began composing seriously when he was 26 and produced symponies, concertos, operas, and overtures. His ballet scores - Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and Nutcracker - have become classics. His famous overtures include 1812 and Romeo and Juliet. In 1891, he visited the United States and was received with great enthusiasm. He died two years later in St. Petersburg (now Leningrad), 1840 - 1893 was 53.

But did you know that there was 13 more books that he had written about OZ afterwards? So if your a fan of the this movie, you may want to know more or find these books. I am interested enough to check on line for more information about this writer and his books and hope you do to.
