Be prepared because an accident can happen to you at anytime. Join an automobile club for towing and road service benefits. Even the best drivers can not avoid the chance of weather or someone else to make the accident happen.
1. Move the vehicle(s) off the roadway as long as it's safe and legal.
2. Make a first aid check of ALL persons involved. That all can get out of the vehicle if any fluids are leaking out/or fire starts.
3. Call for the police and emergency medical services, if needed.
4. Turn on emergency flashers and turn off the ignition of all vehicles involved. Place flares and/or cones near the scene. Be aware of on coming traffic.
5. Exchange written information: full name, address, driver's license number, license plate number, phone number and insurance information.
6. Take pictures, diagram the scene, including passengers, vehicle direction and lane, date, time and weather. And information from anyone who saw it happen.
7. Get name and badge of police officer who will file report.
8. Get a copy of the police report and initiate a claim with your insurance agent.
