When it happens will you be ready? That day will come anytime of the year when your car has trouble and you break down. Anyone who has a car should have an emergency kit. You can buy them in the store or put together one of your own. It is better to be safe then sorry. You may even be a hero for someone who needs a helping hand. This would also make a caring gift for that new driver.
In a bag or storage container you should have:
*Small throw rug (for kneeling on to fix that tier)
*Old shower curtain (to cover the ground if you have to crawl under the car)
*A blanket (to keep you warm) and extra clothes if you get wet
*Work gloves
*Basic tools (screwdriver, pliers, rubber hammer, pocket knife, wrench)
*Set of battery jumper cables
*Flashlight & extra batteries
*Emergency flares & glow sticks
*Wheel chock
*Four-way tire wrench / jack
*Roll of mechanic's wire & electric tape & duck tape
*Folding Shovel, snow brush, ice scraper
*Container of cat box filler (litter) or rock salt, or sand
*Can of instant seal for a flat tire
*Empty gas container
*Old scarf or pantyhose (for hose repairs)
*Basic first-aid kit (listed below) and extra medication just in case
*Cigarette lighter, matches and candles/& holder
*Rubber bands
*Container of water-do not fill to the top in case it freezes (for radiator or drinking)
*Fluorescent safety vest or tape (to see the person working on the car at night)
*Non-perishable food (nuts, cookies, crackers) to eat & bottled water
*One time camera (for insurance pictures on claims or accidents)
*For winter driving (boots, scarf, hat, gloves) & rain gear
*Windshield washer fluid
*Cell phone
Don't forget the spare tire.
Remember to drive safe, and if you do break down to move the car completely off the road. Never stand near the roads edge of on coming cars.
