Ingredients ::
  • Crust:
  • 1 package yellow cake mix, divided
  • 1/3 cup butter OR margarine, melted
  • 1 egg
  • Topping:
  • 1-1/3 cup maple pancake syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring OR vanilla extrat
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Makes: 24 bars

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan.

Reserve 2/3 cup of the cake mix; set aside.

Combine remaining cake mix, melted butter and egg in a large bowl; stir until thoroughly blended (mixture will be crumbly). Press mixture into the prepared pan. Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes OR until light golden brown.

For the topping:
Combine the reserved cake mix, maple syrup, eggs, brown sugar and flavoring in a large bowl. Beat at low speed with an electric mixer for 3 minutes. Pour batter over the crust. Then sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

Bake in oven for 30 to 35 minutes OR until the filling is set.

Cool completely. Cut into bars. Store leftover bars in the refrigerator.
