Ingredients ::
- Mint Syrup:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 bunch fresh mint sprigs
- For each serving:
- mint leaves
- crushed ice
- 2 Tablespoons mint syrup (above)
- 2 Tablespoons water
- 2 oz. Kentucky bourbon

Makes: 8 servings
Prep time: make the syrup the day before you want to serve this recipe. This syrup will keep in your refrigerator for several weeks.
To make the mint syrup:
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Boil for 5 minutes, without stirring. Pour mixture over a handful of mint; in a bowl. Then gently crush the mint with a spoon. Refrigerate the syrup mixture overnight in a closed jar. Remove mint leaves and continue to refrigerate.
Substitution for Mint Syrup:
Purchase a bottle of mint syrup (used for flavoring expresso drinks and Italian sodas).
To serve each Mint Julep drink:
Crush a few mint leaves in the bottom of an 8 oz. glass; crush mint with a spoon. Then fill glass with crushed ice. Add mint syrup, water, and bourbon. Stir until glass is frosted.
Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint.
