Ingredients ::
- 1 oz. compressed yeast
- 4 cups warm water OR potato water (can be made from a few riced potatoes)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- 3 Tablespoons melted lard (Crisco can be used)
- 10 to 12 cups flour

Makes: 3 loaves
Note: you can use some whole wheat and some rye flour or some wheat germ if desired.
Crumble yeast in 1/4 cup warm water, let stand until dissolved.
To the rest of the water add the lard, sugar and salt; in a bowl and mix.
Combine both mixtures in bowl, then add flour gradually and mix well.
Knead dough until smooth and elastic. Let it rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again.
Shape into 3 loaves and place in greased pans. Let rise until double.
Bake loaves in a 375 degree oven for 45 minutes.
Remove bread from pans and place on a rack until cool before cutting.
