Cookie dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine all the cookie ingredients. Beat at low speed, scraping the bowl often, until well mixed, about 1 to 2 minutes.
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter and place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet to spread.
Bake for 6 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting:
Melt 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan. Blend in the flour, then stir in the milk. Cook until thick and mixture comes to a boil. Chill.
Add vanilla. Cream 1/2 cup butter and 3/4 cup sugar until fluffy.
Gradually add the flour mixture. Beat until frosting is of a spreading consistency. (you could use a little food color to make your frosting a different color)
