This is a food test that could take you a little time to do.

To be a detective, you will first need a note book to take notes.

Then pick out a food item you like.

This could be any item that you can buy from restaurants, fast food places, pre-packaged items ready to eat from stores, and something you can make from scratch at home.

Get your family to join in test.

It could be french fries, or a cheese burger, mac-n-cheese, and so on. But it must be the same item from each place for the test to work.

So maybe this week you get your french fries from McDonald, and the next time you get them from George Webs, and then the deli at the store, or from the freezer section. Then make them from scratch with real potatoes.

Keep notes on how good they taste?
What the cost is for a single serving?
Which item provides you with less waste, that ends up in the garbage that can not be recycled?
Check on the nutrition facts per serving, for fat, sodium, and sugar, and the calories?
Check on the Ingredients it takes to make this item?
Is this item produced in the USA?

So what have you learned by this test? Now you and your family might want to start to make some changes, in the places you go to buy your food, and how they are packaged. The cost to buy it as fast food, or to make it at home. And just how healthy is the food you have been eating. You have the choices to pick out better food items now! bear_thumb.gif
