Ingredients ::
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons soft butter
  • 1/2 cup very hot tap water
  • 1-1/2 cups drained cooked apple slices
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • confectioner's sugar glaze (use your own recipe) optional

In a large mixer bowl, mix 1/2 cup flour, sugar, salt, yeast and butter. Gradually add water. Heat at high speed in mixer, 2 minutes, scraping often.

Add 1/2 cup more flour and beat again.

Add another 1/2 cup flour (total of 1-1/2 cups in all) and beat until very thick batter is formed.

Apread batter evenly in a buttered 9 inch square pan.

In another bowl, toss apples with cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. Arrange on top of the batter.

Bot with butter. Cover, let rise in a warm place, free from drafts until it doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

Bake in oven at 400 degrees, about 25 minutes or until done.

Drizzle with confectioner's sugar glaze if you like.

Let stand on wire rack about 10 minutes to cool before removing cake from pan.
