Every year the Gary family travels with a group from Dexter, Michigan to San Juan Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. They bring luxury items that the villagers cannot afford: hundreds of pairs of used prescription eyeglasses, reading glasses and sunglasses of all sizes.

In the village, glasses cost two months' salary, not including a trip to an optometrist in Guatemala City. Children in particular need glasses. Without them, reading and studying are nearly impossible.

The next trip to the village is in March. Lorraine Jara, a D1NT Nice-o-holic, is the Garys' neighbor, and she is asking for our help. Last year, D1NT members generously donated hundreds of pairs.

Do you have an old pair of glasses shoved into a drawer? If so, how about donating them and helping out? Could you put out a collection box in your office, school or house of worship?

You will provide the gift of sight and light the way to colors, books, and smiling faces.

All sizes and styles are welcome - children's sizes too.

During a three-day trip, members of the Lions Club examine as many as 800 patients and give them the eyeglasses they need. All of the glasses have been donated and then washed, sorted and labeled by volunteers in the U.S.
