bear_original.gif What to do with all that lovely sterling flatware you got as wedding gifts?

Don't wait for company; use it, every day and enjoy it.

Silver is meant to be enjoyed. It's too elegant to be tucked away out of sight. There is always Tarn-X products for taking care of it. The best treatment is to wash the flatware in hot, soapy water, rinse, and dry throughtly. When using tarnish removal products, you'll sense a mild chemical aroma, which is from the sulfur coming off the silver. DON'T rub, and rinse the silver in cold water.

Remember to rotate your flatware, not using the same pieces for every meal. This way, the patina (silver's finish) develops evenly.

It has been proven that frequent use actually prevents silver from tarnishing.
This means that some of the most treasured, decorative possessions are in day-to-day use, which is good for the owners to enjoy and a great way for the couple to remember the gift givers.

Storage Tips

Before storing your silver away, wash each piece and be sure it's thoroughly dry. Dampness, air and sunlight are silver's worst enemies. So, store your silver flatware in an airtight drawer or chest lined with a tarnish-preventive cloth or in protective bags.

Keep your larger pieces, like trays, candlesticks and serving dishes, in flannel cases or wrap them in acid-free tissue paper first, then place them in a reclosable plastic bag. NEVER wrap silver in plastic wrap, aluminum foil, newspaper or bind flatware with rubber bands. They can damage the silver's finish.
