Block Parties are booming!

What a great idea to get everyone involved, and enjoying the benefits of bonding with young and old neighbors.

Whether it's a holiday celebration, a clever theme party, a commitment to a common cause or just a day of good old fashioned food and fun, a block party can turn an ordinary neighborhood into a close knit, caring community. Other ideas, could be a dance or battle of the local talent, rummage sale, or safe events for children like: egg hunts, trick-or-treating, and mini carnival games. These parties can also be used to raise money.

Forge new friendships - and fire up those grills. Nothing brings people together like a barbecue. Let your neighbors show off their skills at the grill. Start with a big supply of burgers and hot dogs, and make it a potluck party, with everyone bringing family favorites for side dishes and desserts. You could even have a cook off contest!

Create a committee to tackle the tasks first, some ideas listed below, but the more people you can get to help out - the better:

The communications coordinator - handles invitations and RSVP's and creates a contact list for everyone. Also gets permits if needed.

The money master - sets a budget, collects funds and buys main course meats, plates, utensils and trash bags.

The refreshment wrangler - sets up charcoal grills, tables and coolers, and ensures diverse potluck dishes and beverages.

The entertainment emcee - supplies music and organizes events, such as balloon tosses, pie eating contests and tree legged races.
