Ingredients ::
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup cut up uncooked prunes
- 2 cups flour (if using self rising flour, decrease soda to 1/2 teaspoon and omit salt)
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1-1/4 teaspoons soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup salad oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup chopped nuts

For Prune Cupcakes: Heat oven to 400 degrees. Fill paper lined muffin cups 2/3 full with batter. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes: 25 cupcakes.
Orange Prune Cake: Add 2 tablespoons grated orange peel to the batter; frost the finished cooled cake with an orange butter icing.
Pour boiling water over prunes; let stand for 2 hours.
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour baking pan, 13 x 9 x 2 inches.
Into a large mixer bowl, measure prune mixture and remaining ingredients.
Blend 1 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping the bowl occasionally. Pour batter into the pan.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool cake some before serving, top with frosting or cool whip.
