Christmas cookie ornaments

Makes: about 2 dozen cookies (depends on cookie cutter)

Mix thoroughly butter, confections sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Blend in flour, soda and cream of tartar. Divide dough in half. Take one half and divide that into 5; one for each food color. Mix each dough with a drop or two of food color to get the color you want, then repeat with remaining colors. Cover dough; chill for 2 to 3 hours.

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Roll uncolored dough 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Roll colored doughs; cut out different shaped to fit on top of each plain cookie shape.

If you wish to hang these cookies on your tree, insert a small drinking straw through the top of each cookie before baking; to make a hole to put string or a hook through.

Bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until golden brown on edges.
