Ingredients ::
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 2-1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans

  • Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon bourbon
  • 2 Tablespoons water (about)

In bowl of electric mixer, briskly blend butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating constantly.

Sift together cake flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Blend sour cream and bourbon.

Alternately, add flour and sour cream mixtures to egg batter. Add pecans. Pour batter into buttered 3 x 5 x 9 inch loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack. Pour glaze over top and let dribble down sides of cake.

Glaze:

Combine sugar and bourbon. Stir while gradually adding water. Add just enough water to make a pourable glaze. Take care not to make glaze too thin since the cake is warm.
